CAIRO – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour asserted deep-rooted historical and strategic ties between Egypt and the UAE, voicing Egypt’s aspiration to further strengthen these relations through expanding co-operation in higher education, scientific research and innovation.

During the minister’s meeting with Advisor at the UAE Presidential Court Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalid alNahyan and his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the ministry at the New Administrative Capital, the two sides reviewed significant progress in Egypt’s higher education system in recent years.

The meeting was attended by President of Alexandria University Abdelaziz Konsowa.

The minister pointed out to the establishment of numerous public, national private and technological universities as well as branches of prestigious international universities in Egypt.

Ashour highlighted the importance of fostering academic and research cooperation with educational institutions in the UAE, which contributes to building human capital and advancing research outputs in service of the two nations’ development priorities.

He reiterated Egypt’s vision of becoming an educational hub attracting students from across the Arab world, Africa and the Middle East through multilingual academic programs.

The minister also praised the rapid development witnessed at Alexandria University across various educational, medical and research fields.

Ashour affirmed that the university’s highly qualified academic staff significantly bolsters its leading role in supporting Egypt’s educational and healthcare systems.

For his part, the UAE advisor to the Presidential Court voiced the UAE’s deep appreciation for Egypt and the strong fraternal ties binding the two countries.

He affirmed the UAE’s commitment to enhancing academic and scientific cooperation with Egypt and strengthening partnerships in higher education, research and innovation.

Sheikh Khalifa commended the remarkable growth of Egypt’s higher education system and its increasing regional and international leadership.

He welcomed the establishment of Alexandria University’s branch in Abu Dhabi, describing it as a valuable addition that will offer modern academic programmes aligned with labor market needs.

Meanwhile, Konsowa said preparations are underway for the launch of the university’s Abu Dhabi branch, that will offer a range of academic programs in health sciences, engineering, computer science, business and the humanities.

Meantime, both sides discussed ways to deepen collaboration in research, industry linkages, the knowledge economy and academic exchange, with a focus on maximising the impact of research outcomes for the mutual benefit of the two nations.
