CAIRO – Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Aati had talks on Thursday with World Food Program (WFP) Country Director Praveen Agrawal on means of promoting co-operation between the ministry and the programme.
During a meeting on Thursday, Abdel Aati said water and food are interrelated, referring to the limited water resources in Egypt and the negative of climate change on agricultural production.
He highlighted the importance of depending on technology and modern methods in managing water resources to achieve food security, save water and produce renewable energy.
He referred to the achievements realized by Egypt over the past years in the field of water management and using modern irrigation systems.
For his part, Agrawal hailed the outstanding organization of the World Youth Forum which was held earlier this month in Sharm El- Sheikh, citing the two sessions which were held during the forum on food security and water security.
He expressed the WFP’s interest in participating in the fifth Cairo Water Week and the COP 27 which will be held in Egypt next November.
