Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Co-operation, Rania Al-Mashat, held a meeting on Monday with European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela, during his visit to Cairo, to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and EU.

The talks centered on shared priorities related to sustainable development, the green transition, Co-operation  under the “Team Europe” initiative, and support for Egypt’s national platform for the “NWFE” programme.

Al-Mashatvoiced the government’s appreciation for the economic partnership with the EU and welcomed the elevation of relations to a strategic partnership.

She highlighted the ongoing efforts to implement the EU’s €4 billion Macro-Financial Assistance package to support Egypt’s budget deficit.

“This initiative is seen as a critical pillar in advancing Egypt’s structural reform agenda, with technical discussions continuing in preparation for the upcoming assessment mission to ensure alignment on reform priorities and maximise developmental impact,” Al-Mashat said.

The meeting also probed the activation of the EU’s investment guarantee mechanism for the private sector, aimed at mobilising increased European investments into the Egyptian market.

The two sides reviewed progress in the implementation of the NWFE program, which seeks to stimulate investment in energy, water, and food projects as part of Egypt’s transition to a green economy.

The European Commissioner reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to the initiative, praising it as an innovative model of development Co-operation .

As part of efforts to enhance transparency and information sharing, Minister Al-Mashat presented the Commissioner with a copy of the ministry’s annual report, detailing progress in development projects supported by international partners.

Cairo and Brussels reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening the Egypt-EU partnership in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular emphasis on the green transition, women’s economic empowerment, and building economic and social resilience in the face of global challenges.
