CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli affirmed that the “Takaful and Karama” (Solidarity and Dignity) program had started with fewer than two million beneficiaries and funding not exceeding EGP 5 billion.

For the fiscal year 2024/2025, the program financial allocations have reached around LE41 billion, up from approximately LE24 billion in 2023/2024. These allocations are set to rise to LE54 billion in the next fiscal year – an amount nearly equivalent to the total amount Egypt spent on all cash support programs over seven years from 2011 to 2017, now being allocated in a single year to “Takaful and Karama” programme alone, he said in a ceremony on the tenth anniversary of starting the program organised by the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Today, the state operates more than 22 social protection programs with an annual budget approaching LE635 billion, of which the Ministry of Social Solidarity implements 13 programs, he added.

The ceremony was attended by a number of former and current ministers, as well as representatives of the World Bank and UN agencies.
