Moscow – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi took part in a high-profile dinner hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday evening, marking the start of commemorations for the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The event, held at the Kremlin in Moscow, honored the presence of foreign delegations gathered to commemorate the end of World War II.

According to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy, the participation of President El Sisi underscores Egypt’s commitment to global peace and its continued engagement with international partners on key historical milestones.

During the event, President Putin received President El Sisi on the sidelines of the dinner, where the two leaders exchanged cordial greetings and discussed aspects of mutual interest. The meeting highlighted the longstanding ties between Egypt and Russia and reflected the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations.

Victory Day, observed annually in Russia on May 9, marks the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. This year’s celebrations carry added significance as they commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, one of the most pivotal events in modern history.

On Friday, commemorations will continue with a traditional military parade in Moscow’s iconic Red Square, showcasing Russian armed forces and military history. The day will conclude with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexandrovsky Garden, where heads of foreign delegations will pay tribute to those who perished during the war.

President El Sisi’s attendance at the event reflects Egypt’s acknowledgment of the sacrifices made during the global conflict and its respect for international efforts to maintain peace and stability.
