Egypt marked Earth Day 2025 on Tuesday, joining a global call to action under the theme “Our Planet: Our Strength.” The focus this year is on the urgent need for countries to unite in supporting renewable energy and tripling global clean electricity generation by 2030.

The Ministry of Environment has launched a multi-pronged campaign to commemorate the day, featuring online initiatives, seminars, school and university art workshops, clean-up events, and tree planting. These efforts aim to boost awareness and encourage sustainable practices throughout Egyptian society.

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad stated that Earth Day underscores the shared responsibility for environmental protection, requiring cooperation across government, the private sector, civil society, and individuals.

She stressed that sustainable development relies on collective action and ongoing education.Minister Fouad highlighted Egypt’s commitment to international environmental goals and the ministry’s strong focus on engaging young people in its awareness programmes.

She also emphasised Egypt’s advancements in renewable energy, pointing to the success of the Benban Solar Energy Complex in Aswan. She further noted the ministry’s collaboration with relevant bodies to integrate environmental priorities into energy policy and incentivize private clean energy investment to cut emissions and improve air quality.

As part of its green transition, Egypt is also prioritizing energy generation from waste as a sustainable waste management and energy solution.Minister Fouad highlighted recent environmental achievements in line with the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, targeting emissions reduction, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth.

She also stressed the importance of the circular economy and green financing for Egypt’s sustainability goals. Earth Day has been observed globally since 1970 to advocate for environmental protection.
