Talks cover Horn of Africa scene, supporting Somalia, Red Sea security

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reiterated the depth of relations with Eritrea and Egypt’s keenness to bolster these relations across all fields.

The President’s remark came while conferring with the visiting Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on Sunday, Presidency  Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said.

Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdel-Aati and Chief of the General Intelligence Service, Hassan Rashad, were present at the meeting.

At the outset of the meeting, Minister Saleh conveyed the greetings of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to the Egyptian leader, spokesman Shennawy said, adding that President Sisi expressed valuation of this attitude.

Discussions during the meeting covered the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and ways to enhance regional stability, whether through bilateral collaboration or within the framework of the trilateral coordination mechanism with Somalia.

In this respect, both sides reiterated their commitment to supporting Somalia in combating terrorism and in maintaining the country’s unity and territorial integrity, spokesman Shennawy said.

The president and the Eritrean foreign minister also reviewed ways to achieve peace and stability in the Sudan, as well as enhancing the efforts made by Red Sea coastal states for its governance and security, and rejection of any role by non-littoral countries in this regard, the Presidency spokesman added.
