Egypt’s Air Cairo is set for a major transformation, with plans to expand its fleet, enhance digital operations, and strengthen cybersecurity as it prepares for increasing competition in the aviation sector.

Under the leadership of Captain Ahmed Shanan, and in line with directives from Civil Aviation Minister Samih El Hefny, the airline is set to receive five additional Airbus A320 Ceo aircraft in 2025, bringing its total fleet to 40 aircraft by the second quarter of the year. The new aircraft will replace older models, improving fuel efficiency, reducing maintenance costs, and enhancing passenger experience.

Beyond fleet expansion, Air Cairo is undergoing a full digital transformation, aimed at boosting operational efficiency across all departments while improving customer experience. A major technological shift is scheduled for May 2025, which will introduce advanced digital solutions to streamline operations and enhance travel convenience.

To bolster cybersecurity, the airline has partnered with a leading Egyptian cybersecurity firm to protect its operations and customer data from cyber threats. This proactive approach is expected to strengthen trust among passengers and stakeholders while ensuring the security of Air Cairo’s systems.

Air Cairo is also investing in human resources development, having appointed an international HR consultant to implement a two-phase organisational restructuring plan. The initiative will focus on performance management, career development, and employee well-being, with short- and long-term incentive programmes.

In January 2025, the airline successfully passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a key certification that reinforces its commitment to global aviation safety standards.

Captain Ahmed Shanan, Air Cairo’s chairman, said the airline’s ambitious growth strategy would position it as a leading carrier capable of adapting to the evolving demands of the aviation industry. He stressed that operational excellence, safety, and high-quality service remain at the core of Air Cairo’s vision, ultimately driving customer loyalty, market share, and profitability.

Founded in 1999, Air Cairo launched its first commercial flight in October 2003 from Hurghada to Frankfurt. Its current fleet of 37 aircraft includes 6 ATR turboprops, 3 Embraer E190 jets, 18 Airbus A320 Neo aircraft and 10 Airbus A320 Ceo aircraft.
