CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review a proposed project for producing green hydrogen and ammonia in the Gulf of Suez.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Asmat, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badaw, and other key officials.

During the meeting, Madbouli emphasized that the project aims to boost local production of green ammonia, reinforcing Egypt’s ambition to become a regional hub for green hydrogen.

He highlighted the state’s incentives and Egypt’s abundant renewable energy resources, which position the country on the path to achieving carbon neutrality and attracting further investments in this promising sector.

Additionally, the project is expected to provide green fuel for ships transiting the Suez Canal and to supply global markets, strengthening Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub amid increasing international competition.

Madbouli underscored the strategic importance of green fuel production projects in Egypt, aligning with the country’s energy sector strategy, which focuses on expanding renewable energy adoption and reducing carbon emissions by decreasing reliance on conventional energy sources.
