Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Sherif El Sherbini, has followed up work progress in the expansion projects of Sheikh Zayed City (New Zayed), which is being built on a total area of approximately 8,336 feddans.
Water and sewage lines and networks are being constructed as part of the expansion, in addition to main roads, with the aim of providing an integrated urban community, the ministry said in a press release.
The expansion area is located in the western extension of Sheikh Zayed City, and is considered a new extension of the city, and this area was planned to accommodate various activities, residential, service, commercial and recreational, Minister El Sherbini explained.
The minister stressed that work is being pushedin the ongoing projects, in line with the timelines, and the set standard specifications of each. This includes measures to rapidly abolish any obstacles that may emerge.
In the same context, AssistantDeputy Head of the ministry’s New Urban Communities Authority for Utilities Sector,Ahmed Ali conducted a field visit to review the latest developments pertaining to the implementation of vital facilities and roads in New Zayed. He was accompanied by Eng. Marwa Hussein Amin, head of the city authority, and other officials.
The tour inspected ongoing work in a water line with a diameter of 1200 mm, being extended from purification station, which forms a major step in providing regular water to the expansion area.
In addition, Ali also inspected ongoing work in linking the line to the water purification station, where 95 per cent of the water lines (1200 mm diameter, 900 mm diameter, and 800 mm diameter) have been completed, with a total length of 25 km. The line will feed the various projects in the expansions with pure high-quality water.
The tour also included inspecting the road works, which include the construction of the main axes in the expansion area,representing major arteries for traffic, where roads with a width of up to 50 meters are being constructed,. The roads are scheduled to be completed within a year and a half, in order to support the infrastructure in the region.
In the meantime, sewage lines, 1400 mm, 1200 mm, 1100 mm, 1100 mm and 1000 mm, with depths ranging from 4metres to 10 meters are being constructed for the entire southern extension of the city.
