Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday received Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives Annita Demetriou. Egypt’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebaly attended the meeting.

President Sisi stressed the deep-rooted and solid ties between the two countries and their people, as well as Egypt’s keenness to carry out bolstering bilateral co-operation in all areas of common interest, particularly energy, trade and investment, as well as effective political coordination.

The president also pointed to the significance of parliamentary co-operation as a pillar for consolidating bilateral relations and understanding.

In the meantime, the meeting touched on regional and international developments of common interest, including the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon, Presidemcy Spokesman Mohamed Al Shennawi said.

The two sidesemphasised the need to respect the sovereignty and integrity of states and adherence to the international law, as well as the importance of resolving crises through peaceful means.

President Sisi stressed the need for continued consultation and coordination between the two countries, including through the trilateral co-operation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

For her part,  Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament lauded the distinguished level of relations between Egypt and her country, and underlined that her visit reflects the mutual keenness to continue parliamentary visits, the spokesmansaid.

She also voiced appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role to ensure  security and stability in the region.
