Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty underlined the importance of continued cooperation with Tanzania in implementing infrastructure ventures and mega national projects, especially Julius Nyerere Dam that was implemented by an alliance of Egyptian companies.

The dam represents a successful example of development cooperation between the two sides and contributes to realizing sustainable development in Tanzania, he said.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with his Tanzanian counterpart Mahmoud Thabit Kombo on the fringe of the 46th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa.

The minister underlined the depth of the Egyptian-Tanzanian relations, asserting Egypt’s keenness on promoting cooperation in various domains.

Abdelatty highlighted the growing interest of Egyptian investors and businessmen in the Tanzanian market in recent years, referring to the growing number of Egyptian companies operating in Tanzania.

He underlined the importance of taking measures that contribute to boosting trade exchange, topped by opening branches of national banks to facilitate financial and investment transactions, activate the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), establish logistic zones and launch air and maritime lines.

For his part, the Tanzanian foreign minister voiced appreciation for Egypt’s support in various domains, lauding the Egyptian role in promoting development efforts in Africa.

He added that Tanzania is looking forward to benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in the fields of building capabilities and vocational training.
