LONDON — Mohamed Salah dropped another hint that his future could lie away from Liverpool as the Egypt star said he would be happy “wherever I am going to end my career” after starring in the 6-3 demolition of Tottenham.
Salah scored two goals and set yet more records as he fired Liverpool to a 6-3 victory in a helter-skelter encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.
In the first half, the Egyptian became the first player in English Premier League history to reach double figures for goals and assists before Christmas.
Salah now has a staggering 18 goals and 14 assists in all competitions for Liverpool this season. He also moved up to fourth on the all-time list of Liverpool goalscorers with 229 goals, surpassing the late Billy Liddell.
With Salah’s current deal expiring at the end of this season, he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January.
Having already made several comments earlier this season about this potentially being his last campaign with Liverpool, Salah once again made a cryptic reference to his future.
“It’s great to achieve that at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game. Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it,” Salah told Sky Sports.
Salah added that there was “no update” on his contract situation, but Slot will surely be desperate to extend his talisman’s seven-year stay on Merseyside after he took his goal tally to 18 in all competitions this term.
With Salah to the fore, Liverpool has won 21 of their 25 games in all competitions since Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager.
“I didn’t think about it before the game but I’m glad I have done it, something that makes me proud, I’ll keep working hard,” Salah said of reaching double figures in goals and assists this season according to AFP.
On the game, he said: “We were quite good up front but defensively we need to improve as a team. Conceding three goals is quite hard. It’s a good result, hopefully we just keep going.
“We expected that [a chaotic game], the way they play, they open the game, they enjoy their football, physically tough and mentally we always have to be in the game.
“They don’t change much the way they play, it’s intense. City came here and struggled, other teams too. I’m happy we won because they play an intense game.”
On being fourth on Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring list, he said: “It’s great to achieve that at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game. Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it.”
Luis Diaz also netted two goals for the visitors and Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were on target for Arne Slot’s side.
Diaz met Trent Alexander-Arnold’s beautiful cross with a diving header to open the scoring before Allister nodded home from close range to double Liverpool’s lead, but James Maddison pulled one back four minutes before halftime.

Conceding from set pieces has become a theme of United’s woeful season and the issue reared its head again on Sunday when Huijsen headed home from a corner kick in the 29th minute.
It was the 17th goal that United have conceded from set pieces in the Premier League in 2024, the most by them in a single calendar year in the league’s 32-year history.
