Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, discussed with Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, ways to boost energy cooperation between the two countries in Riyadh on Friday .

The talks comewithin the framework of the state’s strategy to achieve sustainable development and the ministry’s planto diversify energy sources and increase the contribution of renewable energies to the energy mix.

Egypt also seeks to introduce electricity storage projects using battery technology to enhance grid stability.

The meeting focused on reviewing Saudi success stories in electricity storage projects using battery technology, which has contributed to enhancing the stability of the electricity grid in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting touched on smart meter projects and digital transformation through developing traditional networks into smart networks capable of handling huge capacities of renewable energy in a bid to enhance operational efficiency and monitor consumption.

The two ministersfocused on the electrical connection project linking the two countries. The project aims to achieve joint energy exchange, benefiting from the difference in peak times and increased loadsto improvepower management and enhance the stability of power networks in both countries.

The discussions also highlighted the opening of new horizons to increase investments in renewable energy projects, including solar and wind energy as part of joint action plans to achieve sustainable development goals.

Minister Esmat praised cooperation between the two countries, citing that such collaboration represents a model for achieving common interests and optimal utilization of natural resources.

He lauded Saudi plans to develop electricity storage projects with capacities of up to 26-48 gigawatts by 2030, noting that such endeavors will strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries to achieve energy security.
