Governor of South Sinai, Khaled Mubarak, honoured yesterday Egypt’s Ambassador to Greece, Omar Amer, presenting him with the ‘Governorate’s Shield’ in appreciation of his support during Mubarak’s visit to Athens.

The visit followed Mubarak’s participation in London’s WTM 2024 Tourism event.Governor Mubarak met with Bishop Demetrius Damianos, of Saint Catherine’s Monastery, to boost historic co-operation between South Sinai and the monastery.

Mubarak highlighted efforts to preserve the monastery’s religious and cultural heritage, aiming to develop Saint Catherine as a global tourist destination with spiritual significance.

In Athens, Mubarak held talks with Greek officials, including Minister of Maritime Affairs, Christos Stylianides, and Secretary General, Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, discussing ways to strengthen maritime transport links between South Sinai ports like Nuweiba and Taba, and bolster trade, tourism, and economic ties.

Mubarak also met with representatives of leading Greek tourism companies to boost South Sinai’s appeal among Greek tourists. They expressed interest in offering tailored packages to destinations like Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, and Saint Catherine.

The governor’s visit, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Amer, aligns with South Sinai’s vision to upgrade tourism to international standards and contribute to Egypt’s Vision 2030 as a sustainable tourism hub.
