Egypt, Saudi Arabia call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Lebanon

Higher Egyptian-Saudi Voordination Council formed

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon during high-level talks in Cairo on Tuesday.

The two leaders stressed that the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, based on the international resolutions, is the only path to lasting peace. They also warned that attempts to marginalise the Palestinian issue would fuel further conflict in the region.

Beyond the regional security concerns, the talks also focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The two leaders agreed to form the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council, chaired by both President Sisi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aiming to enhance cooperation on political, economic, and security issues. This new council will oversee joint efforts to expand trade and investment opportunities, particularly in the fields of energy, transportation, and tourism.

The two leaders also addressed other pressing regional issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Libya, and Syria, and discussed measures to bolster security in the Red Sea region. They reiterated the importance of maintaining stability in these areas to ensure regional peace and economic development.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two sides signed an agreement on mutual investment protection, further solidifying their economic partnership.
