Egypt, Jordan stress need to achieve ceasefire in Gaza, Lebanon

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, in the presence of Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and Jordan’s Ambassador to Cairo, Amjad Adaileh.

The Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy stated that the Jordanian foreign minister conveyed to President Sisi the greetings of Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

President Sisi said Egypt is proud of its close historical relations with Jordan, both at the official and popular levels. He reiterated the two countries’ commitment to continuously develop bilateral co-operation to meet the aspirations of their peoples for development and prosperity.

Discussions covered Egyptian and Jordanian efforts to calm tensions in the region, the presidency spokesman said.

Both sides reiterated their firm position on the necessity of intensifying serious international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and to ensure the delivery of necessary humanitarian aid to prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis.

President Sisi and Jordan’s FM Safadi stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders is the primary guarantee for achieving lasting peace and stability in the entire region.

They also warned against the dangers of the ongoing military escalation, which further complicates the situation and poses serious threats to the security in the region and the well-being of its peoples.
