Cairo– The Egyptian national team delivered a commanding performance, securing a 3-0 victory over Cape Verde in their opening match of Group Three in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The match, played at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, showcased Egypt’s dominance and marked a promising start under the guidance of coach Hossam Hassan.
From the outset, Egypt controlled the tempo of the game, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The Pharaohs’ attacking prowess was on full display, with the combination of Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, and Ahmed Sayed Zizo proving to be a formidable force.
The breakthrough came when Rami Rabia headed home a well-delivered corner kick from Ahmed Sayed Zizo. The goal provided Egypt with a deserved lead and boosted their confidence.
Egypt continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded when Omar Marmoush found the net with a well-placed shot. The goal extended Egypt’s advantage and put them firmly in control of the match.
Cape Verde struggled to mount a response, finding it difficult to break down Egypt’s resolute defense. The Pharaohs’ defensive organization, led by the partnership of Hamdi Fathi and Rami Rabia, ensured that their goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shennawy, faced little pressure.
The match was sealed when Ibrahim Adel added a third goal for Egypt. The goal capped off a dominant performance and secured a comfortable victory for the Pharaohs.
The victory not only secured three points for Egypt but also showcased their potential to contend for the African Cup of Nations title. With a strong performance and a positive result, Egypt has positioned themselves well for the remainder of the qualifying campaign.
However, Egypt will face Botswana in its second match on Tuesday while Cape Verde will take on Mauritania on Wednesday.
