CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat conferred with a delegation from the European Union (EU) on the latest developments of power linkage between Egypt and Europe via linkage with Greece and Italy.
The talks held via videoconference comes within the framework of joint cooperation and strategic relations between Egypt and the EU and the efforts of the ministry to expand the uses of renewable energy including wind energy, solar energy and decarbonisation, a statement of the Electricity Ministry on Thursday said.
The talks come in light of the national strategy for integrated and sustainable energy which targets increasing renewable energy’s contribution to total generated energy to 42% by 2030.
Both sides discussed the strategy of the sector of electricity and power which is done in cooperation with the EU to guarantee merging power with all the resources.
Esmat said the working plan of the ministry is based on adding major capacities of renewable energy including solar energy and wind energy to the national grid.
