CAIRO- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasised the unique and enduring relationship between Egypt and Chad, stressing Egypt’s commitment to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity between the two countries.

This came during a meeting between Abdelatty and Chadian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Co-operation Abdelrahman Koulamallah, held on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Tokyo, Japan.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, said Monday that Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s keen interest in Chad’s security and stability, considering it a cornerstone for the security and stability of the region.

The spokesperson added that both ministers expressed their desire to reactivate the joint committee between the two countries and emphasised the importance of establishing a political consultation committee at the ministerial level.

They also reiterated their commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation and advancing bilateral relations to broader horizons in various vital areas such as energy, infrastructure, construction, electricity, healthcare, pharmaceutical manufacturing, education, and agriculture.

Abu Zeid explained that the meeting included an exchange of views on the current crisis in Sudan, considering its direct impact on both Egypt and Chad, given their proximity to Sudan, noting that they are among the countries most affected by the crisis and its humanitarian consequences, especially as they host hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees. Moreover, their national security is closely linked to the security and stability of Sudan, the spokesperson added.

The two ministers agreed on the need to focus efforts on opening border crossings and providing safe corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid to all Sudanese regions, ensuring safe access for humanitarian workers to affected areas, and encouraging donor countries and relevant international organizations to fulfill their commitments in humanitarian support for Sudan in coordination with neighboring countries.

They also discussed intensifying efforts to reach a hoped-for resolution to the crisis and reviewed the overall political and security developments in Africa, along with several regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The foreign ministers stressed the importance of intensifying coordination and consultation in the coming period to address the recurring challenges facing African countries.
