Egypt, Australia discuss food safety co-operation

Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) Dr Tareq El-Houby received on  Wednesday Australian Agricultural Attaché Donna Bennett, and Deputy Ambassador of Australia in Cairo Elizabeth Wright at the headquarters of NFSA.
They discussed the prospects of joint co-operation between the National Food Safety Authority and the Australian side in the field of inspection, control, analysis and risk assessment.
In addition to supporting the effectiveness of regulatory and supervisory processes related to food safety systems, exchanging information and expertise, especially in the field of studies related to food safety systems, supporting training programmes to develop the human resources, and promoting the development of joint work between the food authorities in both countries.
El-Houby, during the meeting, reviewed the results of the stability study conducted by the Food Safety Authority for the expire of liver and frozen fish.
He also highlighted the NFSA’s interest in studying the mechanism of issuing binding technical rules for new food products.
For her part, Bennett praised the role of NFSA, and expressed her country’s readiness to co-operate with the Egyptian side and transfer its expertise in the field of food safety to serve and develop the food safety system in Egypt.
