CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Thursday underscored the importance of the subsurface irrigation system, which is applied in several countries.

During a meeting with Chairman of Awtad Saudi company Johar Abdullah to review the subsurface irrigation system, in the presence of officials of the company, the prime minister said that he had instructed arranging a meeting with officials of the Saudi company after noticing their fascinating landscape work in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, which is mainly based on the subsurface irrigation that provides multiple innovative solutions for saving water consumption.

He added: “In Egypt, we have several roads and axes, specially in the deserted areas, that require such a successful irrigation method, which contributes to saving water.”

Meanwhile, chairman of the Saudi company thanked Madbouli for arranging the meeting that was a great opportunity for discussing the subsurface irrigation, which aims at handling the flaws of the surface irrigation with an efficiency rate not less than 85 per cent.

He added that the subsurface irrigation method saves between 45-55 percent of water, compared with the drip irrigation.

The premier directed conducting a feasibility study on adopting the subsurface irrigation system, in cooperation and partnerships with Egyptian manufactures, in order to cut down the cost.
