Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Thursday asserted maintaining follow up on applying the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on highways due to its significance in ensuring road safety through the automated traffic management.

The premier added that the smart roads system contributes to reducing road accidents and traffic violations alongside preserving the environment, thanks to cutting-edge techniques used in this domain, in line with state’s efforts toward achieving sustainable development.

Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting held at the premises of the government at the New Administrative Capital (NAC), in the presence of Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala Elsaid, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir alongside a host of state officials.

During the meeting, the transport minister reviewed progress achieved in carrying the first phase of the ITS, which comprises seven roads in the Greater Cairo.

The premier directed speeding up the finalization of the ITS and abiding by the implementation time table, in preparation for its operation.
