MANAMA – Meetings of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League kicked off on Saturday at the level of senior officials.
The meetings are held in preparation for meetings of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, slated for Sunday to prepare for the coming 33rd Arab Summit, which will be held in the Bahraini capital of Manama on Thursday.
Such meetings offer an important opportunity for probing joint Arab action at the economic, social and developmental levels and the devised action plan to address economic and social repercussions of the Israeli aggression for the State of Palestine.
This summit, the first of its kind to be hosted by the kingdom of Bahrain whether at the regular or emergency levels, will be held amid challenging security circumstances in the region.
On Tuesday, a follow-up meeting on the implementation of decisions and commitments at the ministerial level and a meeting of Arab foreign ministers will be held to discuss the agenda, items, issues, and topics that will be presented to the Arab leaders during their summit.
Lately, intensive coordination and consultative meetings were held between the General Secretariat of the Arab League and Bahrain, through which a general committee, headed by the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, was formed to prepare for the summit.
