Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has warned against the continuation of the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting Monday with Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Shoukry called on the Security Council to ensure the implementation of Resolution 2728 and allow unhindered entry of aid into the Palestinian enclave.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the meeting touched on relations between the two countries on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, calling for cementing co-operation in all domains.

Shoukry said Egypt welcomes hosting political consultations at the assistant foreign ministers’ level this year, describing such consultations as a chance to promote relations between the two countries.

He expressed hope that the New Zealand government would encourage its private sector companies to invest in Egypt in light of legislative incentives and measures taken by the government to encourage investment.

The foreign minister appreciated New Zealand’s participation in Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai.

The meeting also dealt with regional and international developments topped by the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, said the spokesman, pointing out that the New Zealand’s minister was keen to listen to the viewpoints of Egypt on the crisis and efforts exerted by Cairo to reach a ceasefire and deliver aid to the Palestinian territory.

The foreign minister renewed Egypt’s rejection of any forced displacement of Gazans or any invasion of the Palestinian Rafah.

They discussed developments in Libya and Syria as well as the threats against Red Sea navigation and their impact on international trade.
