GENEVA/CAIRO – Speaker of the Arab Parliament (AP) Adel Al-Asoomi has praised Russia’s stances for backing the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people to face the crimes of the occupation forces.
The remarks came on Thursday during a meeting of Al-Asoomi and his accompanying delegation with Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev in Geneva on the sidelines of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meetings.
Al-Asoomi said in a statement issued by the Arab Parliament that the Arab peoples appreciate Russia’s use of veto to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, in addition to the ongoing backing of the Palestinians for more than six straight months to counter the occupation forces’ war crimes and genocide in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories.
During the meeting, both sides discussed means to strengthen Arab-Russian parliament ties through exchanging visits and inking MoUs.
For his part, Kosachev lauded Arab-Russian good relations in the current period, inviting Al-Asoomi to visit Russia to contribute to bolstering ties and cooperation between both sides.
