Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir on Monday inspected the third line of the high-speed electric train.

The minister began his tour at Hurghada station, located between tourist facilities and the beach.

The line, which links Qena, Hurghada and Safaga, forms a connection between Upper Egyptian governorate and Red Sea Governorate.

Qena is an interchange between the second and third lines of the network.

The line will cater for tourism, including diving and beach holidays in Hurghada and Sahl Hasheesh and cultural and historical tourism in Luxor.

Interchange stations on the second line will afford travellers access to the Giza Pyramids, Abydos in Sohag, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and religious tourism in southern Egypt.

The express electric train network will comprise four lines, of which three lines are under construction.

On completion, 2,250 kilometres of track will have been laid for six trains that can travel at 230 km/hour and 12 trains at 160 km/hour.
