Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi lauded the Belgian position, which totally rejects the ongoing escalation in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
This came in a phone call received by President Sisi from Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
During the phone conversation, the two sides discussed the distinguished bilateral relations along with the ties binding Egypt and the European Union (EU), in light of Belgium’s assuming the EU’s rotating presidency, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
The two sides affirmed keenness on promoting ties in the various spheres along with enhancing coordination and consultation toward regional and international challenges, added the spokesman.
The phone conversation also took up the current regional conditions, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip, added the spokesman.
President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to attain a ceasefire, exchange detainees and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gazans.
For his part, the Belgian prime minister said that his country stands fully ready to support Egypt’s efforts in this respect, especially as regards activating the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.
