Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid Monday asserted the significance of the current visit by the UN Security Council envoys to El Arish and Rafah cities in North Sinai governorate.
“The visit is made in a crucial timing when the UN Security Council fails to adopt a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, put an end to the continued targeting of civilians along with providing protection for them and securing their basic needs, the spokesman said.
The UN Security Council delegation will check on the flow of the humanitarian and medical operations meant to support the relief efforts directed to Palestinians in Gaza, including inspecting humanitarian efforts and aid provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent as well as medical support offered to the wounded Palestinians.
The UN envoys will stand on obstacles imposed by the Israeli side on the entry of aid trucks and the evacuation of victims via Rafah border crossing.
The visit, which is co-organized by the missions of the UAE and Egypt to the UN, falls within the framework of the current membership of the UAE at the UN Security Council, Abu Zeid said.
