RIYADH – Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam discussed with Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Jassim Mohammed al Ostad prospects of cooperation in the wastewater treatment sphere.

They probed the implementation of projects of rainwater harvesting and protection from floods hazards, alongside capitalizing on the Egyptian outstanding expertise in this vital field.

This came during a meeting between Sewilam and Ostad on the fringe of the fifth Arab Water Conference in Saudi Arabia.

The two ministers mulled the possibility of drafting a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt and Kuwait in the domain of water resources management.

Meanwhile, Sewilam reviewed the Action for Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARe) international initiative, which was launched by Egypt during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) and seeks catalyzing inclusive cooperation to address water as a key to climate change adaptation and its co-benefits, as well as resilience.

It aims at offering transitional adaptation solutions for planet and

people, starting with the world`s most vulnerable communities and ecosystems, including water scarce countries, Sewilam expounded.

The Egyptian minister invited Kuwait to join the initiative and take part in its steering committee, slated for December 10 on the sidelines of (COP 28).
