Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Bassam Radi on Monday met with Egyptian youth hoping to benefit from an initiative launched by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry to settle the conscription status for expatriates.

Over the past week, Egyptian youth living inEurope flocked to the Egyptian embassy in Rome to attend a meeting with a committee from the Egyptian Armed Forces that came specifically from Cairo in co-ordination with Rome Defense Office, to settle the military recruitment positions for Egyptian nationals living in EU countries.

The meeting at the Egyptian embassy in Rome is aimed at finalising the legal procedures with the Egyptian youth abroad to settle their conscription status after completing the required documents. Expat Egyptian youth were previously notified via SMS with the date of attending the committee at the headquarters of the Egyptian embassy in Rome to hold personal meetings with them.

For his part, ambassador Radi was keen on listening to the ideas and suggestions of the expat Egyptian youth regarding the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s initiative to settle the military recruitment position of Egyptians nationals abroad to remove any obstacles they face.

The expat Egyptian youth who attended the meeting expressed their happiness with the new initiative which facilitated their stay abroad and their travel to their homeland Egypt. they also praised the speed by which the measures were completed by the Armed Forces Committee and the Rome Defence Office.

In July this year, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released the initiative to finally settle conscription positions for nationals abroad.

In a statement at the time, the Ministry said that it received along with the State Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs several requests from Egyptians living abroad about the possibility of settling their military recruitment positions, given some of them can not return home or leave once again, as they are not allowed to travel for being required for military service or not having terminated their conscription status.

The move reflect the keenness of the state on offering all forms of facilitations to Egyptian expats including work opportunities, study chances and medical care.
