Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for integrating the projects to protect the country’s coastal beaches on the Mediterranean with the efforts under way to connect the north western coat with the Red Sea.

The aspired integration, the president noted, would foster the strategic and comprehensive concept of the state’s modern infrastructure especially regarding the national network of roads and bridges and the new seaport system.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Monday with Commander of the Naval Forces, Admiral Ahmed Khaled, the Head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Ihab el-Far, and Head of the Financial Affairs Authority of the Armed Forces, Major General Ahmed El-Shazly, Presidency Spokesman Bassam Radi said. A number of the chiefs of national contract and construction companies took part in the meeting, he added.

The meeting was called to follow up on the projects under way to protect the country’s Mediterranean shores, the spokesman said.

In remarks during the meeting, President Sisi referred to the importance of drafting integrated studies by contracting companies on the localisation of the manufacturing of production requirements related to their construction activities, thereby supporting their works, saving foreign currency and creating more job opportunities.

President Sisi also reviewed the efforts and measures taken by the state to protect the coasts extending from the Abu Qir area to the northwestern side of the country’s Mediterranean coastline.

These efforts and measures have been launched, aided by technical and specialised studies prepared in coordination with major technical and consultancy expertise from universities and specialised global companies.

The aim of these efforts is to develop a futuristic perspective for optimised utilisation of the northern coast’s magnificent nature in a way that contributes positively to the state’s drive for development and to the national economy.
