Humanitarian convoys loaded with aid of various kinds arrived in Aswan on Saturday to distribute basic foodstuffs and financial assistance to citizens affected by a wave of bad weather, which hit the governorate last week.

The step was made by Decent Life Foundation in co-operation with the Egyptian Food Bank, as part of the state’s keenness to secure decent life for Egyptians across the country and support them in times of need.

Decent Life Foundation expressed full solidarity with residents of Aswan who were hard hit by the bad weather wave.

Torrential rains and strong winds hit several cities in Upper Egypt. Around 2,000 families were affected, 106 rural houses collapsed and many crops were damaged in Aswan.

The aid included electrical appliances and furniture for damaged homes for the affected families.

The foundation seeks to empower citizens socially and economically, through setting up a number of development projects and providing in-kind aid to those affected by the floods.

Governor of Aswan Ashraf Attia said that the distribution aid would be the responsibility of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The Decent Life Foundation had launched a sizeable number of initiatives nationwide since the start of Covid-19 pandemic to providenecessary support for people.

The Decent Life initiative, launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in 2019, is the largest development project in Egypt’s modern history.

The initiative aims at improving standards of living, infrastructure, and basic services, and targets 58 per cent of the country’s 102-million population.

The initiative is part of Egypt’s Vision 2030Sustainable Development Strategy, which aims to reduce multidimensional poverty and unemployment rates.
