CAIRO – The Egyptian Cabinet’s media center denied reports circulated recently alleging that a decision has been issued to cut the amount of subsidized goods disbursed to ration card holders to only 25 per cent in conjunction with the global price hikes.

In a statement on Friday, the center said it contacted the Supply and Internal Trade Ministry which categorically dismissed such news.

Separately, work is underway to intensify available food commodities at 38,000 outlets nationwide to secure goods for citizens at reduced price.

Some 4,000 tons of sugar, 3,000 tons of edible oil, 1,000 tons of rice and 1,000 tons of pasta are pumped daily to control markets.
