GLASGOW – Egypt will host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in the Red Sea city of Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022.

The decision was taken during this year’s conference, COP26, which is hosted by the United Kingdom in Glasgow.

In her speech at the COP26, Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad expressed appreciation for all the African parties for their trust and support for Egypt to host the coming conference, MENA reported.

She also lauded the global efforts to confront the challenge of climate change which doses not discriminate in its effect between countries and requires active and dynamic multilateral measures involving all parties.

The minister pointed to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s speech at the World Leaders summit at the COP26, in which he asserted that the COP27 will be a real African conference.

Fouad hailed the efforts of the United Kingdom’s presidency of the current conference, the big progress made in the agenda of the negotiations and the announced initiatives.

She reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment towards all parties through working on building bridges of cooperation, removing differences and finding a common ground that helps in making progress in the decisive issues.
