Higher Education Minister and acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Thursday launching a mobile phone app for Android and iPhone to serve as an e-health passport at airports to substitute the Covid-19 vaccination QR code certificate.

The application shows whether the person has received the vaccine or not, and is equipped with a QR code serving as the medical passport, he said.

The move aims at facilitating Egyptians’ travel to any world country during Covid-19 pandemic.

After downloading the application, travellers will register their data, including a personal photo, national ID number and the 20-digit vaccine registration number sent by the Health Ministry.

Once the data is uploaded, the app will connect with the website of the Health Ministry and all vaccination-related information will appear, including dates of first and second doses and the type of vaccine.

The app also includes a feature to show the position of the vaccination through three colors (red if the person has not taken the vaccine, yellow if the person has taken the first dose of the vaccine, and green if the person has received two doses of the vaccine).

The app is not only limited to airports but it can be used at any place, especially after Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli gave directives of banning employees from entering their work place unless they are vaccinated, Abdel Ghaffar said.

Unvaccinated employees will not be allowed to enter their workplaces unless they present a negative PCR test every 15 days, according to him.
