BUDAPEST – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Wednesday that stopping illegal immigration to Europe hinges on the restoration of stability in migrant-exporting countries.

Sisi, currently visiting here, said he greatly appreciates Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s understanding of developments in the Middle East region.

Speaking to reporters after emerging from a meeting with Orban, the president said they discussed measures taken by Egypt to counter illegal immigration.

The meeting also took up means of boosting bilateral co-operation in the different fields, particularly agriculture, economy, tourism and industry, Sisi added.

Egypt is keen on benefiting from the technological expertise of “our friends in Hungary”, Sisi told reporters.

He voiced gratitude for Orban’s continued support for Cairo, noting that the Hungarian premier was confident Egypt could overcome the difficult circumstances since 2011.

Sisi assured the Hungarian premier that the situation in Egypt has now greatly improved at all levels.

He said bilateral talks with Hungary were “positive” and “fruitful”.

The president thanked Orban for inviting Egypt to attend a summit of the Visegrad Group for the second time.
