A report on the Culture Ministry activities in villages covered by the presidential rural development initiative ‘Decent Life’ was reviewed on Tuesday.

Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem submitted the report to the prime minister, which emphasised the ministry’s role in the encouragement of reading and learning through reading for the sake of intellectual development of future generations.

The ministry offered 409 cultural activities in the governorates of Assiout, Sharqyia, Beheira and Alexandria during the period August1- September 2 for 42,000 people.

Cultural events addressed different age and social groups with artistic, literary and intellectual workshops, book fairs, as well as concerts and theatrical drama tackling social issues.

The Cairo Opera House put on shows after artistic and cultural events, the report said.

The report goes on to say that 22 nights of theatrical performances were presented during the same period and were watched by 21,000 people.

More than 10,800 books, and other intellectual publications were offered to 58 school libraries, the report said.

The ‘Decent Life‘ initiative was launched in 2019 when President Abdel Fattah El Sisi tasked the social solidarity ministry with the development of 1,000 villages across Egypt.

In December 2020, the president broadened the scope of the initiative to include 4,500 villages as part of the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030.

“The Egyptian countryside will be transformed in three years,” the president said at the time.
