Means of boosting military co-operation between Cairo and Baghdad topped the agenda of a ministerial meeting on Tuesday.

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi met Iraqi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Nayef Al-Dulaimi and described Egyptian-Iraqi relations as “historic and deeply rooted”.

Morsi stressed the importance of furthering cooperation between military production companies and their Iraqi counterparts in the manufacture of agricultural machinery.

Senior officials from Cairo and Baghdad have been engaged in a series of talks to push bilateral relations forward and strengthen strategic partnerships that work to the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

The Iraqi envoy and the minister said the political leaderships of the two countries were keen to enhance cooperation partnerships, which was evident from the Baghdad Cooperation and Partnership summit which was attended by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi last month.

Morsi said his ministry will offer all manufacturing, technological and technical capabilities in subsidiaries of the Ministry of Military Production to meet the needs of the Iraqi side according to the latest technologies used in these fields.

For his part, the Iraqi envoy stressed the importance of Egypt’s leading role in confronting terrorism and maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East region.

Al-Dulaimi said that his country was looking forward to strengthening industrial cooperation with Egypt.

He commended the ministry’s subsidiaries in supporting Egyptian government plans for sustainable development across the country.

The Iraqi ambassador pointed out the importance of developing effective mechanisms to speed up the work of the Egyptian-Iraqi Higher Committee to strengthen bilateral relations and boost trade exchange and investment.
