A World Bank (WB) delegation praised the achievements Egyptian women have gained so far.

They also commended the strong belief of the political leadership in Egypt in women’s important role in the progress of the society and the development of the nation.

This came during a visit on Monday to the National Council for Women (NCW) by the delegation that comprised WB Country Director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti Marina Wes, Keiko Miwa, the WB’s Regional Director for Human Development covering the Middle East and North Africa region and Ayat Soliman, the Regional Director for the WB Group’s Sustainable Development Department for the Middle East.

The visit aimed at discussing co-operation in areas connected with women’s empowerment and removing obstacles hindering women participation in public life.

The WB senior officials asserted the importance of existing co-operation between the two sides to serve women’s empowerment, saying they look forward to furthering co-operation on that score.

Welcoming the guests, the NCW’s chairperson, Maya Morsi, lauded the strong co-operation with the WB Group.

“Egyptian women are taking confident steps forward in numerous domains thanks to the support of the wise political leadership,” she said, highlighting President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi’s assiduous efforts to put Egypt on the right path of progress to build a better future for the coming generations.

Morsi asserted the importance of confronting negative gender concepts as well as traditions and customs that prevent women’s work and progress.
