The National Authority for Remote sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) will take part in an International Conference for Nature and Natural Resources Conservation to kick off in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Saturday under the auspices of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
In statements Friday, NARSS chairman Dr. Mohamed Zahran said the authority’s participation in the five-day gathering is meant to activate the State’s 2030 sustainable development plan and is also a catalyst for the mechanism of the 14th meeting of the UN Conference of Parties (COP14) that was held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Sharm el-Sheikh between 17-19 Nov, 2018 and held the theme (Investing of Biodiversity of People and Planet).
The event is considered an international platform featuring a number of experts interested in the conservation of natural resources, along with renewable and non-renewable sources of energy, NARSS chairman said.
The latest developments related to natural resources conservation, including bio-diversity topics, mineral resources, archeological sites and water and soil aspects are expected to figure high during the meeting’s discussions, he said.
Meantime, the event will probe climate change challenges, as well as land deterioration and desertification problems, together with efforts to preserve cultural heritage in Egypt, as well as on the regional and international levels, according to Zahran.
The conference is considered the first for the authority’s nature conservation committee ever since it has been established, he said.
The committee, formed in 2018, contributed to a number of national and developmental ventures; floating needed scientific solutions that helped to press ahead with the developmental process, with view to achieving Egypt 2030 sustainable development objectives, noted the official.
