Tired from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? What about taking a short trip to the past?

In Mounira area in Cairo, there is the House of the Nation, which is the house of Saad Zaghloul, the leader of the 1919 Revolution against the UK occupation.

The house is now known as the Saad Zaghloul Museum. Egyptians used to gather around the House, chanting against the occupation, and it remained a hub for the national movement from late 1918 until the end of 1937.

When touring the house, you’ll notice that it includes French furniture in the style of the Louis XV era, Arabic furniture inlaid with ivory, and about 12 oil paintings painted by major artists, including: Youssef Kamel and Mahmoud Hussein, as well as personal belongings of the late leader and the rare artifacts he loved.

Consisted of three floors and fourteen rooms, the house contains 750 artistic pieces. In the ground floor, there is a small salon that used to receive the guests of Saad Zaghloul in the winter.

There is also the dining room, with a large table in the middle and next to it there is a cupboard that includes utensils from dishes and cups.

On the second floor, there is the dressing room of Safiya Zaghloul, the wife of the Egyptian leader, which includes her clothes, shoes, perfume bottles, decorative tools, a radio, and this room overlooks the tomb of the leader (which was built near the house).

Through this room, the visitors can enter the couple’s bedroom, which was kept as it is.

There are lots of details and rooms to visit in the house; you would spend up to two hours enjoying your journey to the past.

If you felt hungry after this journey, we recommend that you visit the nearest restaurant and have a fried liver and Brain meal. It is a delicious Egyptian dish and you can find some restaurants serving it in the area of the museum.
