Egypt’s President Sisi has directed the government to finalise the implementation of projects to develop Alexandria port and other ports, the rail and roadways by no later than 2025.

The president announced this directive in remarks he made on Sunday during a thematic session on “National Projects and Infrastructure” which was the main event of the second day of the “Story of the Homeland…Vision and Achievement” conference that kick-started on Saturday.

The three-day conference is taking place in the New Administrative Capital with the participation of a large number of youth, senior state officials, experts and public figures.

Commenting on statements made by the Cabinet ministers of housing and transport during on Sunday’s thematic session, President Sisi said that we are now talking of completing works for these development projects in the year 2025 rather than 2030.

The president explained that readying these projects to go operational in 2025 implies a challenge for the state having provided the potentials in its acquisition to achieve success of the idea of becoming a world trade hub.

President Sisi noted that the presentations made by Housing Minister Assem el-Gazzar and Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir reflected enormous efforts and a strong will for change to the better.

The two ministers and the government, led by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, endured tremendous pressures, President Sisi said.

“The prime minister maintains round-the-clock follow up of what is being done and bears the pressure,” the president said, adding that that was no courtesy to him but rather an acknowledgement of the housing projects that were launched under difficult circumstances while then a housing minister.

The “National Projects and Infrastructure” session started with a documentary film depicting on the achievements of the housing sector, with a special focus on the state’s key objective of providing proper housing for all Egyptians.

The film illustrated how 358 unsafe areas have undergone development works with a total cost of LE8 billion from 2014 till 2022.
