The Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), South Korea’s official development aid agency, signed a Record of Discussion (ROD) with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Ministry of International Co-operation to implement the project Enhancing the Educational Capacity and University-Industry Co-operation of Beni-Suef Technological University (BST).

KOICA’s Country Director Kim Jinyoung signed the ROD on Wednesday with Minister Advisor for Technological Education Dr Ahmed el-Sabbagh and BST President Dr Mohamed Mahmoud Khedr in the presence of Waleed Al Haddad, Deputy Head of the Asian Co-operation Sector, the Ministry of International Co-operation for Asian Affairs.

The $8 million project aims to supply the Egyptian labour market with a skilled workforce qualified to carry out jobs as technologists and high-level technicians through establishing a mid-to-long-term master plan to ensure the sustainability of the University operation and developing an innovative industry-customise curriculum for ICT, mechatronics, autotronics, and the newly established railway technologies departments. The project duration is six years from 2023 to 2028.

This project is considered a continuation of  KOICA’s project entitled “Establishment of Egyptian-Korean Technological College in Beni Seuf which was completed successfully in 2022, where KOICA established the ICT and Mechatronics Departments, provided the necessary equipment and developed the curriculum as well as support the University to obtain the accreditation for the university’s programmes, which include the Mechatronics Programme and the Information Technology (ICT) Programme, for a period of 6 years from 2022 to 2028.

Additionally, it highlights KOICA’s dedication to fostering inclusive employment skills and youth involvement in social and economic development.

KOICA is a Korean government’s bilateral International Co-operation Agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to implementing grant aid programmes aiming to combat poverty and support sustainable socio-economic growth in developing countries around the world.
