The high school (Thanawya Amma) top achievers’ trip, organised by al-Gomhuria Newspaper for the sixty-first year, started to the German capital, Berlin, on Wednesday.

This year’s trip is organised in co-operation with the German University in Cairo and the German International University in the New Administrative Capital, where a unique programme has been prepared for top students in the German capital, Berlin.

EgyptAir provided free tickets as per the instructions of Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation, in continuation of national carrier’s pioneering role in encouraging the top achievers and helping them acquire new experiences and skills through traveling to Europe annually.

This year’s trip comes within the framework of al-Gomhuria Newspaper’s keenness to continue this annual programme, whose idea was born through the educational page.

Al-Gomhuria was the first Egyptian newspaper to issue this page, which played a major role in supporting students throughout these years.

It is no longer just a trip abroad, but an integrated programme that begins with announcing the names of the top achievers and receiving them in al-Gomhuria Newspaper.

The newspaper then organises several visits within Greater Cairo and a number of governorates. The programme includes visits to a number of universities that offer free scholarships to top students, most notably the German University, which offers scholarships, free accommodation with a monthly allowance for every student who receives the scholarship throughout the study period.

It also includes visits to many Egyptian new cities, most notably the New Administrative Capital, New Alamein and tourist visits in co-operation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Tourism Promotion Authority.

The newspaper is also keen to organise several meetings with officials, the most recent of which was yesterday, hours before departure, with Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education, in the presence of Engineer Abdel Sadiq Al-Shorbagy, Chairman of the National Press Authority and Eyad Abul-Haggag, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing, and journalist Abdel Razek Tawfiq, editor-in-chief of in al-Gomhuria Newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the patronage of Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy organised a reception for the top achievers before their travel in the VIP lounge.

The group is also accompanied during their visit to Berlin by Dr Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University. They will be received by the Egyptian Ambassador to Berlin Khaled Galal.
