The Presidential National Initiative for Developing Egyptian Industry (Ebda, or ‘Start’ in English) has signed a co-operation protocol with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education to launch a new type of the National Technical  Sciences Schools (NTSS).

The project aims to develop a number of technical schools across the nation according to the relevant international criteria, covering the various specialisations of priority to the country, and which are badly needed on the labour market, a press release said yesterday.

Part of the project, work has started to develop the Samira Moussa Industrial School for Girls in Badr City, east of Cairo, to turn it into Ebda National School for Technical Sciences, to operate in the field of artificial intelligence. Also, the Damietta Military Secondary School for Mineral Industries, has been turned into “Ebda National School for Technical Sciences, to cover logistical services and ship repair and maintenance.

The projects are in response to directives from President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi on the need to start develop technical education as part of the efforts to achieve economic development and Egypt Vision 2030.

The training, research and development axis is one of the major work axes of the Ebda initiative which serves as a national umbrella for the development of technical education and vocational training in various fields.

The Ebda initiative was launched by President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi in April last year with the aim of enhancing the role of the private sector in localising industries and reducing imports.

The initiative seeks to offer a number of incentives in this regard, including five-year tax exemptions and usufruct lands. Moreover, the initiative works on providing the necessary support to legalise the status of violating businesses as well as technical and financial support for ones in default.
