ST. PETERSBURG – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday asserted his keenness to foster Egypt’s cooperation with Russia, stressing that the Russia-Africa Summit will have great results.

Sisi made the remarks during his summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg city.

“We are keen to accept your invitations as regards various fields of cooperation and also at the level of the African continent,” the Egyptian leader said.

President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the clear Russian support with regard to the establishment of El Dabaa nuclear power plant, describing the project as giant and pioneering. He also praised the Russian industrial zone project in Egypt.

The Egyptian president also greeted his Russian counterpart on the 80th anniversary of the establishment of relations between both countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said one-third of the volume of Russia’s trade with African countries is conducted with Egypt.

Trade exchange between Egypt and Russia rose 28.8 percent last year and increased a further 7 percent in five months of this year, Putin added.

We have mega-projects in the energy field, especially the nuclear plant construction project, the Russian leader said. “Everything is going according to plan,” he added.

“Over these years and over decades, relations between Russia and Egypt have gained a special status. A lot has been accomplished under your leadership, Mr President [Sisi],” Putin said.
