Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted that the summit of Sudan neighbors is held at a watershed moment for Sudan which is passing through a crisis that cast its negative fallout on the security and stability of the region and the world, especially neighboring countries.

Addressing the summit’s opening session in Cairo on Thursday, he said Sudan’s neighbors are the most affected by the crisis.

Sisi underlined the importance of closing ranks and adopting a unified position contributing to settling the crisis via reviewing proposals by effective regional institutions, topped by the African Union and the Arab League, to protect interests of people in neighboring countries.

President Sisi highlighted the gravity of the crisis and the repercussions of the ongoing fighting for over three months.

He said this has led to the displacement of millions of people either inside Sudan or in neighboring countries, referring to the major structural damage caused to public and private property.

The agricultural season in Sudan is facing major obstacles, thus leading to sharp shortage in food, he said, highlighting also deterioration in health institutions and lack of medicine and healthcare supplies.

This has catastrophic repercussions on the humanitarian situation, he stressed.
