CAIRO – Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi had a meeting with Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, to discuss establishing a youth employment center to address the European labor market needs.
The meeting was also attended by Graziella Rizza, the Head of Governance Section of the EU Delegation to Egypt, according to a statement by the Emigration Ministry.
During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of taking serious steps to start drawing up a roadmap for establishing the center.
She further underlined that the center will help in the continuous communication between the European Union and the Egyptian State to support and facilitate the movement of skilled workers and citizens with expertise in various fields between Egypt and the EU.
During the meeting, Gendi lauded the close ties between Egypt and the EU at different levels, reviewing her ministry’s efforts in fighting illegal immigration, absorbing Egyptian workers returning from abroad and finding alternative job opportunities for them.
She also shed light on Egypt’s successful cooperation with the German side in the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (EGC) and the EU-funded THAMM program, which is co-funded from Germany.
The THAMM program is designed to foster legal migration and mobility for North African countries. Its beneficiaries are citizens of North African countries in working age, workers prone to seek job and apprenticeship opportunities abroad.
