Dr Sherif Farouk, Board Chairman of Egypt Post Agency, said: “the agency’s winning of a World Green Building Council-accredited certificate for its excellence in the design and implementation of the Fares Village Post Office in Aswan stressed the agency commitment to social responsibility towards environmental preservation and sustainable development.

It also reflects the agency’s interest in strengthening its capabilities towards the transition to a green economy by relying on the latest sustainable architecture systems that seek to reduce negative impacts on the environment and enhance the efficient use of energy and resources to preserve the environment.

This, he said, goes in tandem with Egypt Post’s participation in the Universal Postal Union’s initiative to reduce carbon emissions in the world, noting that the step comes as a culmination of the continuous efforts made by the agency towards applying sustainability, improving energy efficiency, and confronting the phenomenon of climate change.

The work has been finalized in co-operation with the “I-Consult” company for engineering consultancy, he said, pointing out that the certificate has been obtained following a review of standards by the Egyptian Green Building Council and an approval from the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).

Farouk pointed out that the Fares Village Post Office has been restored and developed using environmentally-friendly technology to add modern design elements in order to become a unique building that expresses nobility and development, and to be a model for all green branches.

The Fares Village, Aswan Governorate, is the first sustainable green village in Egypt. The postal office was designed and built to also meet the state’s orientation toward implementing the environmental-sustainability standards within Egypt’s Vision 2030.
